Azeez Abiodun
Abiodun’s artistic practice is rooted in the abstract painting tradition passed down from his father. However, as he grew older and received formal training, he was exposed to a variety of techniques and styles including realism, impressionism and expressionism - all of which have greatly influenced his artistic vision.
He primarily uses palette knives to create textured expressive surfaces in his oil paintings. His objective is to simplify and invite viewers to interpret the imagery in his work through the use of lines, shapes, colours and contrast.
A specific focus is the Osogbo art form, a style of abstract expression that utilises easily recognisable figures. He is excited about the potential of modernising traditional art forms.
